Travelling with plaster casts or leg braces

If you are travelling with a plaster cast or leg brace, you will need to provide a medical certificate stating that you are fit to fly if you have an injury that occurred within the last 48 hours.

For fresh injuries (within the last 48 hours) on flights of 2 hours or longer, you must have a split in the plaster cast to allow for potential swelling.

You may be able to travel without a medical certificate when:

  • You can sit upright in the aircraft seat for take-off and landing.
  • The plaster cast is more than 48 hours old.
  • You can move and assist yourself throughout the flight, including in the event of an emergency. If this is not possible, you must travel with a safety assistant.

We are unable to accept passengers with plaster casts or leg braces in the following conditions:

  • If both your legs are in a plaster cast.
  • If you are unable to sit in an upright position for take-off and landing.
  • If you need to have your legs elevated for the entire duration of the flight.
  • If your leg in the plaster cast will not fit into the legroom for the class of travel you are booked in. For information about this, please contact our Customer Centre on (+971) 600 54 44 45 or send us a message via Contact us form.

Where a medical clearance or a fit-to-fly certificate is provided, it is still at the airline’s discretion to accept you for travel.
